1. 1970-S Proof Washington Quarter

The United States Mint made a small batch of proof coins, including Washington quarters, at the San Francisco Mint in 1970. These proof coins were never meant to be used in regular money, and they were made with specially polished dies to give them a perfect finish. The 1970-S Proof Washington quarter is one of the rarest and most valuable coins of its kind, and in Mint State condition it is worth at least $35,000.

2. 1956-D Double Die Obverse Franklin Quarter

Another valuable error coin is the 1956-D Double Die Obverse Franklin quarter. This one’s obverse (heads) was struck twice but with slightly different alignments. This gives the lettering and design elements a doubled effect, which collectors love. The value of a 1956-D Double Die Obverse Franklin quarter depends on its grade, but Mint State examples can fetch several thousand dollars.

3. 1796 Draped Bust Quarter

There are only a few hundred known examples of the 1796 Draped Bust quarter, which is one of the first quarters ever made by the United States Mint. These coins were made just a few years after the mint was established, and they have a unique design with Lady Liberty’s portrait draped in a flowing cloth. In good condition, these coins can be worth tens of thousands of dollars.

4. 1932 Washington Quarter

The 1932 Washington Quarter is another valuable coin, even though it is not as rare as some of the others on this list. What makes this coin valuable is that it was never put into circulation. The dollar was in the middle of the Great Depression in 1932, so the government stopped making quarters because no one wanted them. However, a few were made by mistake, and these coins are now worth a lot of money.

5. 1964 Silver Washington Quarter

The United States Mint changed the Washington quarter from 90% silver to clad (copper-nickel) in 1964. However, some silver quarters were made by mistake that year. They are called “1964 Silver Washington quarters,” and they are worth a lot more than their clad counterparts. In Mint State condition, a 1964 Silver Washington quarter can be worth several hundred dollars.
