Cracker toffee called saltine toffee is just the right amount of sweet and salty. It tastes deep and rich, and the texture is crunchy and chewy at the same time.

It’s also called Christmas crack, soda cracker toffee, and saltine cracker toffee. There is a high chance that you will become hooked on it if you have never tried it before.

SALTINE TOFFEE Recipe – Easiest Recipe Ever

Ingredients

  • 40 saltine crackers
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 12 ounce semisweet chocolate chips

Topping Ideas

  • chopped nuts
  • crushed pretzels
  • crushed candy canes
  • M&M’s or chopped Reese’s
  • sprinkles
  • flakey sea salt

Before You Begin

  • The caramel mixture should reach a temperature of 270-290F to be at a soft crack state. Use a candy thermometer for best results.
  • Do NOT substitute margarine for real butter in this recipe.
  • You can use club crackers, soda crackers, or Ritz crackers instead of the Saltines.
  • If you like white chocolate, replace the regular chocolate and smash up some candy canes to sprinkle on top!

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 425 F. Arrange aluminum foil on a rimmed baking pan. Single-layer all 40 saltine crackers on sheet.
  • Heat butter and brown sugar in a medium saucepan on medium-high until boiling.
  • Mix periodically until sugar melts. Boil for 5 minutes without interruption.
  • Pour caramel over cracker layer after removing from heat. For equal coverage, spread using a wooden spoon.
  • Pre-heat oven and bake 4-5 minutes till bubbling.
  • Sprinkle chocolate chips shortly after baking. Spread melted chips over crackers using an icing spatula. If adding toppings, do it while the chocolate is still melting.
  • Place pan in fridge for 2 hours to harden. Store broken pieces in an airtight container.

  1. This is delicious! I’ve made it for years and just boiled the sugar/butter mix for 3 minutes. A few years ago it completely stuck to the bottom of the pan, 3 times in a row. My husband was able to clean the pan all those times. I couldn’t make it this year because I need my husband’s help & he now has dementia. Please, if you never have made this, do.
